A true clash of the titans

Only two Vodacom Cup league matches are left before the play-offs kick-off for the 16 teams in the competition.

This weekend the log leaders of the northern section, the Steval Pumas will meet one of their toughest opponents to
date, the Leopards. For both teams there is a lot at stake, as a win will determine a home quarter-final. If there is one game the Pumas don’t, it’s an away game in the play-offs.
The Leopards, which are second on the log with 17 points, three behind the Pumas, will have to travel to Middelburg for this exciting clash. In previous encounters it has been a close shave, but the team which plays until the last whistle blows, takes no risks and plays perfect rugby, will travel home as victors.
Pumas coach, Jimmy Stonehouse has opted for one of his strongest teams yet to take to Middelburg.
His strongman lock, and former player of the year, Rudi Mathee is back in action after he broke his arm in a Super 15 match for the Lions. Last weekend against the Assupol Blue Bulls in Polokwane he showed he was hungry for contact and would certainly be one of the players who would keep the Leopards defence on their toes.
“This is a make-or-break match for us. The 2013 champions, the Lions, are in fifth position, but will pile up the points this weekend as they play the Limpopo boys. They will easily make the qualifiers. For us its all about the
perfect game! Keep our feet on the ground, pride in the pocket and make calculated decisions between the white lines. This match will be like a play-off and we can’t afford to slip up,” said Stonehouse.
