Youngsters develop a passion for tennis

Lotto Play and Stay tennis projects are being launched throughout Mpumalanga so learners can develop an interest in the sport from a junior level.

It was launched on Saturday at Nelspruit Primary with Tombi Pappas and assistants Sharon Woords, Jean van Rooyen and Tito Makabula.
Coaching sessions and tournaments are taking place around the province on a monthly basis.

More than 10 000 children were already introduced to tennis and more than 600 participated in the projects on a regular basis.

A group of advanced players were supported to take part in local tournaments to enhance their skills and gain valuable experience.
Some of them were already chosen to participate in the provincial teams for their age group.
“A large growth in participation in the younger age groups is experienced. More schools also take part in tennis leagues because of these projects.
“The coaches aim at identifying young talent and enhancing their ball skills on the forearm, backhand and serve game,” said Pappas.
