Golfers take up the challenge for CANSA

The Sanlam Cancer Challenge, South Africa's biggest mass participation sports event, recently held its men's and ladies' club competition at Lydenburg golf course.

It was a perfect day as participants took to the greens in one of the most popular golf events in South Africa.

The winners of the club competitions at various golf courses in Mpumalanga will go through to the regional finals, and those winners will qualify for the finals at the Gary Player Country Club and Lost City Golf Course at Sun City on October 20
and 21.

“We were blown away by the support we received in the 2013 series and the record R3,3-million we were able to raise for the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA). The success of this series and its effectiveness in the fight against cancer relies on every single golfer in South Africa to play his or her part, from our patron Ernie Els to the club golfer. And we appreciate every bit of support. The Sanlam Cancer Challenge enables club golfers anywhere in the country to do something positive and make a real impact through the game they love,” said Sanlam sponsorship manager, Gary van Loggerenberg.

Sanlam and CANSA have partnered the Sanlam Cancer Challenge since 1993.

The purpose of the Sanlam Cancer Challenge is to raise funds and awareness annually for the fight against cancer.

Close to 40 000 golfers play in more than 800 club competitions held around the country in support of CANSA’s prevention programmes and patient care support throughout the year.
