Bikers make their presence felt at GOC series

Nine riders of this popular team already completed several races this year and are steadily climbing the ladder in the Portable Shade GOC Series 2014.
The GOC is one of the largest off-road bike/quad series in South Africa and accommodate competitors on all levels. It is open to off-road motorcycle and quad contenders from across the country.
The team, consisting of BJ Scholtz, Riaan Prinsloo, Danie van Wyk, Paul Calitz, Clifford McGee, Johan Lubbe, Craig Gregory, Jean-Pierre Scholtz, who all participate in the club class, and champ in the making, Bernard McGee, already showed what they are made of by participating in various local events as well as round one and two of the GOC series.
Bernard, who represents McGee Yamaha/Ford Lydenburg at national level, and also in the pro-class of the GOC series, finished the first round, a gruelling 165km in Middelburg, in first position with a time of 02:27:31, making him the current leader in the OR3 category, with 50 points, after two rounds.
He achieved an overall forth position, crossing the line only 6 minutes after front-runner, Ruan Roberts.
Lubbe crossed the line in second place in the OR1 Club Class, in a time of 02:54:51, only eight minutes after the winner, Izaak Holl.
Not settling for the second place, Lubbe fought his way up and secured a win in the second round of the series in Potchefstroom, winning the 174km in a time of 03:17:36 which declared him leader of the pack in OR3 category with a total score of 47.
Clifford crossed the line just over three hours with a best lap time of 1:04:06. Both of these riders will also have their first national silver race written to their name on June 13 when they will participate in the Vryburg nationals.
Another podium dominator, Craig Gregory, who also represents the team in the enduro series, finished both rounds in the OR2 Class, in first and second position individually, resulting in an overall lead with 7 points.
A tight battle between both Scholtzs, Calitz, Prinsloo and Van Wyk in the OR3 Club Class arise from the start, resulting in four podium finishes over two rounds. BJ and Calitz finished in the second and third position in the first round, with a time of 02:48:22 and 02:53:40.
Jean-Pierre also finished in the top ten, followed by Prinsloo and Van Wyk. BJ kept his second position in the second race, but this time Van Wyk took the third spot on the podium when he finished in a time of 03:27:07.
After two rounds it is BJ in an overall second position with 44 points, followed by Calitz with 32 points and Van Wyk just behind them with 20. Prinsloo and Jean-Pierre are also neck on neck with only a difference of two points.
