SA hope for historic victory in Sri Lanka

South Africa are hoping to end a 21-year-old test series draught in Sri Lanka by winning the second test, which starts in Colombo on Tuesday.

South Africa beat the hosts by 153 in the first test in Galle and will look to continue their winning form in the next test.

Hashim Amla, who got his captaincy off to a winning start, told the media that his team is aware that it is difficult to win a test series in Sri Lanka.

“Not many teams have come here and won a test series so it’s obviously on the back of our minds,” he said.

The Proteas are likely to rely on the bowling prowess of Dale Steyn, with Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews admitting that his pace may cause the Sri Lankan batsmen problems.

“Steyn is an unbelievable bowler, any captain would love to have a guy like him in his side,” Mathews said.

South Africa, currently second in world test rankings, have not won a test series in Sri Lanka since the first time they toured the country in 1993. South Africa won that series 1-0.

Since then, South Africa has lost two test series and drawn one.

If South Africa win this test series, they will replace Australia as the world’s number one test team.
