Locals hit bulls-eye at champs

The World Compak Sporting Clay Championships had five local guys participating at the Hippo Creek Shooting Range near Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng this past week.

Matthew Greeff, Martin Potgieter, Erenst Zeelie, Hardus Snyman and Niel Venter joined 250 shooters from 10 international countries, including several world senior, ladies and junior champions and 23-time World FITASC/English doubles champion, George Digweed from Great Britain.

After three days of intense competition, South Africa had their first World Compak champion with Tim Hubner of Johannesburg beating the tough international field by a single clay.

The sport is a game of skill, using hand-to-eye coordination to hit moving clay targets flying at about 120km/h and whether it is simply having fun once or twice a month, or aiming to become a national team member, it is a vibrant, active sport at any level.
