Three South African soccer supporters visited soccer enthusiasts of Emjindini last week as part of broadening the recently established Soccer Laduma Supporters Club (SLSC).
Bloemfontein Celtic supporter, Botha Masilo, famously known for spotting his shower cap during Premier Soccer League (PSL), Orlando Pirates fan Dejan “Malaka” Miladinovic and Kaizer Chiefs prominent supporter Fefe “Mama Fefe” Sonti, met with various elite league soccer supporters of Emjindini last Saturday at Emjindini taxi rank.
The trio’s visits was part of encouraging PSL fans throughout the country to join the SLSC.
According to Clint Roper, Soccer Laduma editor, the club was not here to steal supporters away from their own PSL club supporter’s initiatives.
“Our (SLSC) goal is to have every PSL club fill the stadium to the rafters for each and every home game. SLSC is not here to make you choose between your club and Soccer Laduma. It’s about creating a community of like-minded football lovers who through putting club allegiance aside, and pooling their collective football passion, will have a louder voice when issues to improve the game need to be raised with the custodians of soccer in this country,” he said.
Roper said they were hoping by establishing the SLSC, that when clubs wanted to know why supporters were staying away and crowd attendance was low, Soccer Laduma could ask supporters and get the entire voice of South African supporters to respond to the clubs.
Over 200 SLSC branches have since been established.
Botha called the supporters to grow football together. “Supporters are the most important people in the soccer business. Yet, who is regarding us as important? Who is giving us a platform? Are we as supporters doing enough to grow football in this country? Let’s unite and do more to contribute to the success of our sport. Let’s join SLSC to help take football to the next level. With one voice, one mission, one vision, together we can do a lot more,” said Botha.
Local secretary for the Umjindi branch of Kaizer Chiefs supporters, Maras Nkosi, has called all local soccer supporters, irrespective of their favorite PSL teams, to support the initiative.
