It only took four minutes for the Egyptians to find an equaliser through Youssef. After this Pirates got back in the driving seat and looked set to steal a late win but it was Zamalek who had the last laugh as Mostafa Fathi stole the show with a beautiful curler, which left the inexperienced Bright Mhlongo seeing stars.
This loss has dealt the Ghost a heavy blow and they will now have to pray that AC Leopards continue with their poor form and drop points along the way.
AC Leopards who lost to Pirates in their opening game were held to an all-one draw by the Tunisian Sfaxien FC, meaning that they are behind the Buccaneers in third with only one point. Pirates are second with three points and Zamalek are on top with six.
Pirates’ next assignment is on July 25 against the struggling Tunisian side, Sfaxien FC.
