Nelspruit BC win Legogote
Twenty-four teams, comprising a total of 96 players recently enjoyed the sunny Lowveld weather during the Legogote Tournament at the White River Bowls Club.
The teams gathered from all over the Lowveld. Teams from England called Hertz Nomads and players from Groblersdal also competed in this annual two-day competition.
Day one was three games of 12 ends and it was the Fast and the Furious team from Hazyview, Larry Ireland, Darryl Cross, Christie Cross and Marion Robertson who was in the lead after two games before it went downhill for them from there.
A spider was played and all funds will be donated to Mamma Esters Orphanage.
On day two the bowlers were struggling to find the right weight and grass and battled with a few stiff muscles but they all managed to play to the end.
The great sportsmanship of players extended to the hall, where the group feasted before the prize-giving.
The Nelspruit Bowls Club team of Joao and Jeanette Richards and Fanie and Annetjie Nel received the Legogote Trophy, with last year’s winner Diane and Ben Enslin, John and Nannie van Eeden in second place.
In third were Marilyn and Brian Coulson with Greg and Lanie Anderson. Fourth were Stephen Venter, Hardus and Gwyn Korf and Gerrie Swanepoel.
Every team received a prize, ranging from wine and water bottles to vouchers and hats, which was welcomed with broad smiles and jokes. A raffle was held and Marietjie Willers left with an owl painting by Rene Eloff. Paula Jacobs chose the beautiful photograph taken by Chris Colverd and Marilyn Coulson took a hamper home.
The bowlers enjoyed the tournament and thanked the organisers for a well-conducted event.
The organisers in turn thanked the various clubs for their support throughout the year.
