Dozens hit the greens for Lalapalm Tournament
The Malelane Golf Club's annual tournament was once again a great hit with dozens of players and their families from all over the country.
The Lalapalm Tournament once again lived up to its name by providing players with a challenging game of golf and plenty of fun and entertainment off the greens.
The tournament was hosted by the Malelane Golf Club for the 32nd time, with several players mentioning that the experience had become somewhat of a family tradition.
On Wednesday TWK Agri-Boffins sponsored a hole-in-one prize worth R150 000 and Saturday Malalane Toyota sponsored one worth R100 000. Although Jan Koster came very close on Saturday, no one managed to land the spectacular shot.
The camping grounds were filled with tents, as several competitors and their families settled in for the week and enjoyed everything the club and area had to offer.
Each day of the tournament a different format was played and each night a prize-giving ceremony was held to celebrate the day’s victories.
Singer Dewald Dippenaar performed at the club on Wednesday night, while JP Dix entertained the crowd on Friday night.
Saturday night the hall was packed for the final prize-giving ceremony and the delicious three-course meal that accompanied it.
Wynand Krynauw was the overall winner with 144 points, Corné Sutherland came in second with 128 points, Roelf Fritz was third with 120 points and Tinus de Beer was fourth with 96. Chrisna Oosthuizen was the winner of the ladies section with 78 points.
Club captain Dave Rothwell announced the winners and handed over the prizes, with Jaco Stassen representing main sponsor Malalane Toyota.
A total of R26 300 in cash prizes and vouchers were handed out during the week. A weekend for four people at the six-star Kabaku Lodge was also up for grabs and a lucky draw during the final prize-giving gave a few more people a chance to win.
The organisers would like to thank all of the sponsors who contributed to this successful tournament, as well as John Martin and his team for their hard work in keeping the golf course in pristine condition.
