Free soccer tickets are a first
As part of the agreement, 40 local supporters received free tickets from Barberton Times, and were privileged to witness Gabadinho Mhango come off the bench to score four goals.
Lamontville Golden Arrows beat Mpumalanga Black Aces 4-2 at Mbombela Stadium in front of supporters who were part of a new partnership between the Mpumalanga side and Lowveld Media.
Lowveld Media, the mother body of Barberton Times, has entered into an agreement between this publication and the Mpumalanga elite side to give away 20-double tickets for all matches played at Mbombela Stadium.
Last Wednesday’s game was the first in this partnership between the two cooperates. As part of the agreement, 40 local supporters received free tickets from Barberton Times, and were privileged to witness Gabadinho Mhango come off the bench to score four goals.
As Barberton Times hits the streets on a Wednesday and the game was played on the same day, which was also a holiday, people were chosen randomly. Since Barberton Times is a community newspaper and knows the real football lovers of this community, several supporters were hand-picked.
Maras “Kortman” Nkosi and Maloli Moscow, who are the coordinators for Soccer Laduma Supporters Club in Umjindi, appreciated the gesture.
Nkosi is a Kaizer Chiefs supporter while Maloli is an Orlando Pirates fan. These two teams are arch-rivals, but despite this, these two men put aside their rivalry to unite Umjindi football lovers.
“For us it does not matter which team plays Aces. We are soccer lovers of Umjindi. We watch each and every game. For us these tickets came in handy and we hope your partnership will be a long one. It will encourage more local fans to love the beautiful game of football,” said Nkosi.
Aces played Bidvest Wits yesterday (Tuesday, May 3). The tickets were given to local soccer fans.
