Bats and balls on fire at Penryn College
Penryn College, hosts of the u/14 T20 cricket tournament, also produced the best bowler and batsman of the week in Jarrod Small and Joshua Greeff respectively.
Six teams from schools around the country, as well as two Penryn teams, participated in the five-day T20 tournament which finished last Tuesday. Small finished the tournament with a total of 11 wickets with Greeff scoring 259 runs in his six innings.

Each of the eight teams played matches within their respective pools followed by play-offs. Hoërskool Randburg were the overall winners after beating Northwood School in the final on Tuesday. The Northwood team was 22 runs short of Hoërskool Randburg’s total of 138 (all out) at the end of their 20 overs.
Penryn College’s u/14 team placed fourth in the tournament while the Penryn Colts, the school’s u/13 team, came in sixth place, after losing to Alberton High School from Johannesburg in the last over of their play-off game last Monday. The Colts set a target of 136 (for 5). Alberton scored the required 137 with six wickets to spare.
On Tuesday morning, the two Penryn teams joined forces and chased down Heron Bridge College’s total of 70. There were stand-out performances from Greeff, with 35 not out, and Ethan Scorgie on 26 not out. Jake Cavaleri impressed with 5 wickets for 4 runs and Small took 2 wickets for 12 runs.
Head of cricket and coach at Penryn College, Eric Grimaldi, said he was very happy with the standard of cricket at the T20 week. He hopes there will be 10 teams participating at next year’s tournament.
