Bodybuilders flex their muscles on SA-stage

Local bodybuilder, Lucky Nkosi (39) improved on his performance in last year's Nabba SAs when he placed first in his category (under 75 kilograms, under 1,65 metres) this past weekend.

In 2015 he walked away with a third place in the same category. For the second consecutive year, he qualified for Nabba World’s.

It will be held in Dublin, Ireland in the beginning of November. South Africa played host to this prestigious event last year, where Nkosi just missed a spot in the top-three.

The 39-year-old defended his provincial title and was once again crowned overall winner of the day. “I want to thank my coach who has been involved in my training since 2014. I also would like to thank the local community for the support and a local business man for contributing to my trip to SAs. Good luck to all the matriculants for the exams,” said Nkosi.

Yet another bodybuilder, Tessa Els, bagged a silver medal at the South African Championships. She qualified for the SAs at the Nabba/WFF provincials at Sasol Recrational Club in Secunda, where she placed first in her category (over 1,63 metres tall). It was her second gold medal of the year and the fifth consecutive year that she has earned her provincial colours.

She achieved sixth place at last year’s SAs.

“I believe that I was stronger and more dedicated,” said Els.

She said that without her coach, Victor Alley, this achievement would not have been possible. “I have the best coach in the world. Vic, you are the reason for my success and I would not have mind first place, but I am very proud with my second place at the SAs.”

As always, Els looked spectacular in her yellow outfit.

“Thanks to Johan Esterhuizen, Corné Ackermann, Buks Esterhuizen, Marlene Hurter, Tanja de Man-Heunes, Anzelle, Stone, Wanita Barroso and Liezel Snyman Marais for all your support throughout the year.

She also thanked the people who has helped her raise funds to compete at SAs. ”

Last but not least, thanks to my hubby and my family who are always there to support me. It means the world to me. All the glory to God.”
