Juniors impress on mat

Junior gymnasts from the White River branch of Nelspruit Gymnastics Academy (NGA) participated in an annual gymnastics test last week. These youngsters showcased some of their best abilities.

Strength and flexibility was measured to ascertain their development and readiness for the next level of progressive training.

Presiding coach, Yolandé Gerber, said that she is very proud of her troupe. The cute Kiddy Gym gymnasts, who start practicing at the age of three years, were first in line. Young Reuben Bester (4) received the trophy for best overall performance in this category. The Pre-Novice gymnasts were remarkable in their execution of skill.

Their dedication amazed the NGA head coach and owner, Maré Putter: “I was very impressed with the progress of the kids, the coaches did an excellent job.”

Along with medals and progress reports, the kids took home a gift hamper from Mountain Spring Spur.

Surprisingly the gymnasts still continue to practice until December. After the test preparation, training begins so that gymnasts can be ready to learn and master new skills in their next challenging level. A specialised tumbling course is also earmarked on their calendar.

The following gymnasts received achievement trophies for scoring full marks in their categories:
• Pre-Novice 1 – Leandri Pretorius
• Pre-Novice 2 – Lyran Meyer and Tamaryn Thornhil
• Pre-Novice 3 – Jaime Maciej.
