Prospectors take first prize in 10th tournament

Team Prospectors won the Golden Nugget Golf Tournament for a third consecutive year, beating Local Diggers.

The tournament took place at Barberton Golf Club (BGC) from last Thursday to Sunday.
The competition followed the Riders Cup format, and they played 18 holes each day.
Pierre Vermaak, organiser of the tournament, said this year the event was celebrating its 10th anniversary.
He said they are playing the tournament annually with a team from outside Barberton.

“Our team, the Local Diggers, is made up of 12 local business people who reside on Rautenbach Farm, which is situated on the R40 road to Barberton. We annually invite the guys from outside Barberton (Prospectors) to play.

Our intention is to make friends,” said Vermaak. He said to make the three-day event more fun, each of their team players used a name of an old-time Barbertonian.
On Friday BGC will host the NTT Toyota Barberton Golf Day, which is aimed at fund-raising for Barberton Nursery School-Kleuterskool. There will be a shotgun start at 12:00.
