Jetro takes the grand prize at gala

Nelspruit Swimming Development Academy (NSAD) held their first ever winter sprint gala at the heated pool at Laerskool Malelane on Saturday.

The gala was split into a senior category for swimmers older than 10 years, and a junior category for ages four to nine.

“In order to develop swimming, we decided to host a fast, fun gala and every swimmer enjoyed the event. Off course everyone tried their heart out to win the cash prizes on offer,” said André Cloete of NSAD.

What made this event different was that points were calculated over four events in the senior category and three events in the junior category.

The senior swimmers had to swim a 200-yard individual medley as one of their four events.

Juniors competed over a 50-yard event of their choice and two by 25-yard events. Age, event, gender and the time the event was completed in were taken into consideration to determine the points.

In the senior category, the first prize of R1 500 was won by Jetro Piso, the second prize of R1 000 went to Giano Dos Santos and Jodi Dos Santos who placed third, took home R500.
