Local judoka bags bronze in India

Nelspruit Judo Club's (NJC) Johannes Moolman, picked up the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Judo Championships in Jaipur, India.

Anthony Theron, also of NJC also qualified to represent South Africa in India, but unfortunately could not travel with the team. Moolman competed for masters aged 40 to 44, over 100 kilograms where he was up against an athlete from India for the bronze medal. Building up to this was years of hard training and taking part in several championships.

The last tournament Moolman participated in was the national rankings in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, where he finished second after fighting against the current top-ranked judoka.

Moolman is already practising for the training camp and trials for the All Africa Games in January.

“It was an amazing experience and South Africa’s Tang Soo Do athletes do not have to take a back seat to anyone. I have learned a lot from some of the world’s best fighters and I aim to make the squad for the All Africa Games.”
