Group aims to walk themselves healthy

The Nkomazi Walkers can be seen early on Sunday mornings, walking along one of the roads in Nkomazi to get fit and are inviting other community members to join them.

If you’re interested in getting fit and healthy, but are not keen on going jogging, consider joining the Nkomazi Walkers.

The group was formed by Muzi “Bobstar” Mashaba and Charles Siyenga in February last year and consists of about 150 registered members.

Siyenga said their aim was to motivate people to get fit and they decided to start an activity group that residents of all ages and fitness levels could join.

The group sets off every Sunday at 05:00 and walks a different route somewhere in Nkomazi’s villages or along main routes like the N4.

This year the group has walked from the Nkomazi Toll Plaza to Riverview Prep School and from One Tree Hill to Matsamo Plaza.

The walk is usually between 10 and 20 kilometres and they try to stay as safe as possible by wearing reflector jackets and keeping to the road reserve.

Besides their regular weekly walks, the Nkomazi Walkers will also host special holiday walks on Youth Day and Women’s Day.

On Sunday the group will walk from Sebothomas in Block B to DD Mabuza in Block A. Everyone is welcome.

Anyone interested in joining the group or sponsoring transport, water or other resources, can contact Siyenga on 076-359-9684 or Mashaba on 082-488-0508.
