Wild Hogs wins the first game of the season

The ice hockey season is heating up and by the look of things, spectators are in for a treat.

The first game of the season took place on March 10 and saw both teams put up a great performance on the ice.

Even though the Wild Hogs took the spoils by one point, it wasn’t handed to them on a silver platter.

The Boar Crushers sent four pucks flying into the back of the net thanks to Ulrich van der Westhuizen who scored two, and Waldo Steynvaart and Hari Andre one each.

Ryan Truter, who without a doubt walked away with the man of the match title, scored three goals, and along with Winand Cronje, Jean Steyn and Lihle Mavuso’s one goal, secured the win for the Hogs.

The senior games kicked off this past Sunday and what an event it turned out to be. With an electrifying crowd and two amped teams the stage was set for an awesome challenge.

With Wild Hogs coming out to play current cup holders the Boar Crushers, it was certain that this would be the game to set the standard of the league ahead.

The Wild Hogs took centre stage early and proved they meant business from the first whistle with Pieter van Rooyen scoring the first goal while spectators were still dusting their seats.

The game pushed on with high pace and physicality from both teams, much to the crowd’s satisfaction. However, the

Boar Crushers could not hold on to the even score to secure a draw due to a calculated and planned attack by a fierce Wild Hogs team in the third period, securing a well-deserved victory of 3 to 2.
