All set for Da Voice’s schools tournament in Barberton

The inaugural Willie Da Voice Soccer Tournament will take place at Barberton Prison Sports Ground tomorrow.

The tournament, which will feature four high schools within the Barberton Department of Education circuit, is the brainchild of Ligwalagwala FM voice-over artist Willie “Da Voice” Qwabe.

The tournament forms part of his birthday celebrations.

He said the main aim of the tournament was to unite young people and give them a break to showcase their talent.

Growing up in the dusty street of Barberton was challenging, but I had to find a way to stay focused and remain grounded. Besides the love, care and guidance of my grandparents, playing soccer kept him me from illegal activities. I have decided to bring hope and restore human dignity to the youth of Emjindini through sports. It is a known fact that Barberton is one of the townships in the Lowveld with the highest number of young people involved in drugs, alcohol abuse and crime,” said Willie Da Voice.

The schools that will be participating are KaMhola, Emjindini, Chief Funwako and Barberton Secondary School.

Ligwalagwala FM and Nelspruit FORD’s soccer teams will play as curtain raisers before the final.

The winning team will pocket a brand new soccer kit and R5 000 in cash. The player of the tournament will receive all-expenses-paid driving lessons.
