Joy inspired at mini cricket

Leading child psychologists the world over are in agreement over one important issue; play is vital for children's development.

Play provides them the opportunity for creative brain function and develops their imagination, dexterity, physical, cognitive and emotional strength.

It is universally agreed that play promotes healthy brain development and allows children to interact with the world. In light of this, Penryn College hosted the final independent schools’ mini cricket festival of the year last week Friday.

A staggering 120 boys and girls gave it their all in the exciting games. The young cricketers brought their A game and showed off their skills in the game.

The four visiting schools were Curro, St Peters, Sumerhill and Woodlands. They brought with them formidable teams eager to get on the pitch and get the ball rolling.

Shoain Shelton, head of junior prep sport at Penryn, said despite the warm weather conditions, the children seemed to enjoy every minute of it, to loud cheers from their parents there to support them throughout the mini cricket festival.

“This was also the first Penryn mini cricket festival for our grade one boys and girls. The college first-team girls decided to challenge the parents in a fun mini cricket match,” he said.

He thanked the parents for their support along the side of the field, adding that it injected much enthusiasm into the children’s play. “The little cricketers really love the encouragement,” he concluded.
