LVCC ladies’ hockey team and White River in epic battle
The road to the finals were truly well paved and the win meant that the trophy stayed in the Lowveld.

Last Thursday saw the Lowveld Country Club (LVCC) ladies’ hockey team take to the field against White River Hockey Club at Penryn College. The clash could only be described as epic as both teams gave it their all on the Astro turf.
There were moments of sheer brilliance during the match which saw LVCC draw first blood after scoring two goals in quick succession.
Far from being a run of the mill clash, there was entertainment aplenty for the crowd as the players put their hockey prowess on display. There was much at stake for both sides who attacked and defended with aplomb throughout the match.

The teams played slick field hockey with moments of spectacular skill and prowess with the sticks on display for the appreciative spectators. The first two goals came courtesy of LVCC’s Jeneen Manders and buoyed the side which went on the attack in hopes of increasing their lead.
After a few minutes of back and forth play between the evenly matched sides, White River scored two of their own through Lize Oosthuizen and Tanya Lindeque. After the deadlock, it was game on and the players took it right down to the wire.

As play progressed, LVCC found themselves defending against a White River team intent on snatching the victory. Both team supporters cheered their favoured side on, which injected more energy into an already thrilling encounter.
White River piled on the pressure and LVCC soaked it up right until the very last minute when they scored courtesy of Ashley Smyth, bringing the scoreline to 3-2.

The hard-fought victory saw LVCC crowned as the second league Mpumalanga champions. Both teams travelled up to the Hockey Farm and recorded victories in the semi-finals. After this win, the road to the finals were truly well paved and the win meant that the trophy stayed in the Lowveld.
