Run/walk for life a huge success at stadium

During this past weekend's Ehlanzeni Run/Walk for Life event that started and finished at Mbombela Stadium, it was obvious that once you start with this addictive sport, it becomes part of your lifestyle.

Running is not a sport to be taken up gently, to do whenever you feel like it.
It is almost as if the motto for all came down to “run when you can, walk if you have to, crawl if you must; just never give up”.

Moses Mahlangu is the epitome of what a top runner should be. He has done very well in previous Two Oceans and Comrades ultra marathons.

He cruised to an easy first place in the 21-kilometre race in a time of 1:05:23, a full two minutes ahead of Abednico Mashaba. The third place went to Graham Malinga.

The first open female home was Nobukhosi Tshuma and she was followed by Catherine Skosana.
This event was open to walkers as well, and in the 21 kilometres female category Kate Hulett marched her way into a convincing first position. The first male walker was Martin Vilakasi.

There was very strong competition in the junior categories. In the junior male category Glen Mhlango was home first. The first junior female was Tembe Cossa.

Run/Walk for Life specialises in getting you started, even if your level of fitness is very low or non-existent. A major emphasis of the programme is on fitness and weight loss through personal goal-setting.

Through the programme, you set your own personal goals, in consultation with the highly trained staff. Skilled staff members create personal and customised training schedules to suit your goals, which could be anything from weight loss to intensive training, or doing basic and gentle exercise with a group of other similar and friendly people.
