PHOTOS: Lowveld reigns supreme in interdistricts

The tournament was held at Van Riebeeck Park, with the Lowveld winning and taking the spoils against teams from Highveld and West Mpumalanga.

Last Saturday, the Lowveld stood its ground firmly in the Mpumalanga u/10 Interdistricts Tennis Tournament, on home soil.

The tournament was held at Van Riebeeck Park, with the Lowveld winning and taking the spoils against teams from Highveld and West Mpumalanga. The Highveld were the runners-up, while West Mpumalanga finished third. Six girls and six boys competed as a team in singles, doubles and mixed doubles, against the other two districts.

The Lowveld team consisted of players from Mbombela, White River and Malalane. The girls team consisted of Natalia Paul, Nina Grobbelaar, Shayna Lea, Minette Swart, Milan van Heerden and Rebecca Eybers. The boys team consisted of Dandré Louw, Iwan Grundlingh, Caleb Coetzee, Adam Brooks, Janco de Bruyn and Julian Middel. Milan and Rebecca, at the girls’ number 5 and 6 positions, were undefeated throughout the tournament, as was Julian at the boys’ number 6 position.

“Congratulations to all players who participated in the tournament. The matches were played in good spirit and it is so encouraging to see so many young players competing and enjoying the game. On behalf of the Lowveld committee, I thank Highveld and West Mpumalanga for participating in the tournament, and for all their hard work that goes into supporting junior tennis,” said Lowveld Junior Tennis chairman, Eckhardt van der Linde.
