Brooklyn goes for gold

Teen swimming sensation, Brooklyn Croxon, has been scooping up the gold medals this year.

Last week she added to her cache when she represented Mpumalanga at the South African Summer Games in Pretoria.

She managed an easy win in the 100-metre freestyle by swimming a time of 1:00;10. In the 50-metre freestyle, she won and broke the record with an incredible 27,5 seconds.

She came second in the 200-metre freestyle, but won yet another gold in the 50-metre breaststroke, in a time of 36;3 seconds.

Earlier this year Croxon realised that she could take her swimming career to the next level when she competed in Italy, and won four gold medals and one bronze. Croxon then represented South Africa at the Pesaro and Treviso swim cups on June 28 and 29.

She said she has exceeded her own expectations. When she competed in Italy, she earned two of the gold medals in the 50-metre and 100-metre freestyle competition.

She added two more gold medals in the 50-metre and 100-metre freestyle event in the second competition. The teenager entered the 200-metre freestyle race and earned a bronze medal in this event.

She was elated at the prospect of performing so well against international swimmers, saying, “It was an honour to represent my country at both the Pesaro and Treviso swimming competitions. I was very privileged to be selected to be on the team and compete against Italy’s best swimmers.”

The youngster follows a strict exercise regimen under the watchful eye of Jasper Venter, who encourages her to stay in shape as she makes waves. Venter himself was an Olympic swimmer and now coaches swimmers at Uniswim.
