VIEW GALLERY: SA’s top swimmers make a splash in Mbombela

The best of the best in SA swimming were put through their paces by coach Graham Hill

MBOMBELA – The South African national swimming team is in Mbombela and have been training at the Van Riebeeck Park swimming pool this week.

The national head coach, Graham Hill, put the swimmers through their paces in preparation for the first of three Grand Prix events on this year’s swimming calendar.

“This is the start of the Grand Prix, with two more to follow. The next one will take place in Stellenbosch at the end of January and the last one will be held in Durban at a date to be announced,” he said.

According to Hill, the more than 100 swimmers are the cream of the crop in South African swimming.

“These swimmers are South Africa’s best, including the junior national team that represented SA at the world championships last July.”

Swimming fanatics are in for a treat, as the team competed in the 10-kilometre open water swimming meeting at Longmere Dam in White River yesterday, to be followed by the five-kilometre challenge at the dam this morning.

There is no entry fee and spectators are invited to come and cheer on their favourites at the Van Riebeeck Park swimming pool today from 14:00 and Saturday at 08:00, in exciting races by some of the country’s best up-and-coming talents and stars of tomorrow.
