Curro Nelspruit win Curro Interhigh

Records smashed by local athletes

Curro Nelspruit won the annual Curro Interhigh, hosted by the school last Saturday, for the third consecutive year.

The meet took place at Hoërskool Nelspruit.

Julia van Aardt of Curro Nelspruit set the track alight with four records. She won the u/15 90-metre hurdles (14,47 seconds), 100 metres (12,70), 200 metres (26,95) and 400 metres (1:04,65). She was the junior victrix ludorum and the best overall girls track athlete of the meet.

Curro Nelspruit’s Gaby Underwood set three records: in the u/16 100 metres (12,70 seconds), 200 metres (27,98) and 400 metres (1:04,65). Gaby’s efforts earned her the senior victrix ludorum title.

Ané Janse van Rensburg won the girls u/16 shot put, with a record distance of 11,44 metres, and the discus with a record throw of 24,77 metres. She was the best overall girls field athlete of the day.

Mirriam Mashood won the girls u/14 100 metres in a record time of 13,11 seconds. She also won gold in high jump (1,40 metres), long jump (4,44 metres) and the u/19 triple jump (10,32 metres).

Curro Nelspruit’s Gerald Skhosana sprinted to record times in the boys u/19 200 metres (22,51 seconds), 400 metres (51,21) and 400-metre hurdles (55,76), claiming the senior victor ludorum title.

Another local lad, Taku Taderera, won the boys u/15 long jump gold with a leap of 6,28 metres and the 90-metres hurdles in 13,96 seconds, with both achievements being entered into the record book.

Taku won the junior victor ludorum and the best overall boys field athlete and track athlete of the day trophies.

Curro Nelspruit also won the spirit cup.

Curro Nelspruit were excellent hosts and the meet was well planned and executed.
