1 788 runners competed in the various races

Graham Malinga of Eskom Athletic Club beat local favourite, Professor Mthethwa, of Nedbank Running Club Mpumalanga, by 24 seconds in the Uniwisp Fast 5-in-1 Marathon on Saturday. Malinga won the race in 2:26,36.
The various races started on the Sabie Road and finished at Mbombela Stadium. The athletes enjoyed the cool, overcast Lowveld morning.
The race for second place was between Mthethwa and his teammate Lovers Hlatshwayo. Mthethwa clocked 2:27,00 and Hlatshwayo was timed at 2:30,17.
City of Mbombela Marathon Club runner, Moris Maiga, claimed the men’s veteran’s title. He finished in a time of 2:38,00 and was sixth overall.

Mandisa Nyathikazi of Lindelani won the women’s marathon in 2:50,11. Chrizell Roberts of Nedbank Running Club Central Guateng was second in 2:50,51.
Lowvelder Manda Gomes, in the colours of Nedbank Mpumalanga, was third in 3:12,47.
Madeleine Whitehair of Run/Walk for Life Mpumalanga won the women’s veteran’s race and was eighth overall in 3:27,22.
In the men’s ultramarathon of 50 kilometres, Chris Dry of Murray & Roberts Central Gauteng took gold in 3:08,18.
Nedbank LVCC’s Ntuthuko Maseko claimed second place in 3:13,57. He was the first veteran runner to cross the finish line. Khensani Ngobeni of A4A Gauteng was third in 3:17,51.
The winner of the grandmaster division was Johannes Nyalungu, of Ngodwana Marathon Club. The 60-year-old clocked 4:22,40 and was 44th overall.
Henrietta Phaladi of AEL Running Club won the women’s 50-kilometre race in 3:54,23, Thifhelimbilu Mudau was second in 4:03,09 and Pearl Hughes of Polokwane Athletics Club third in 4:10,08.
