Burger burns up 50-kilometre course

Hundreds of riders enjoyed the scenic Casterbridge course

Barend Burger won the men’s 50-kilometre race at the Demacon MTB Series Race #1 at Casterbridge in White River on Saturday. Burger clocked in after one hour, 49 minutes and 55 seconds.

Christo Carelsen came in second, one minute and 32 seconds later, while Franco Pelser finished third in 01:56,21.

Samantha Sanders claimed first place in the women’s 50-kilometre event. The 37-year-old was in a class of her own and showed the younger riders how it is done. She crossed the finish line in 02:22,14.

Monet Blofield was second in 02:37,43 and Megan Kemp third in 02:41,51.
In the men’s 25 kilometres Bongani Mathebula burned up the course. The 19-year-old was the youngest participant and literally sprinted to a winning time of 01:03,05.

Brett Coates was second in 01:17,29, while Antonie van Heerden finished third in 01:17,31.

Leana Pieterse won the women’s 25-kilometre event in 01:20,44.

Julie Pool was second in 01:22,29, and Yolandi Lizamore third in 01:23,28.
