TS Galaxy move up to 10th place on DStv Premiership log
The Rockets face TS Sporting in a tough Nedbank Cup knockout match on Saturday
TS Galaxy moved up to 10th place on the DStv Premiership log with a convincing 3-0 win against Black Leopards at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday.
Only three points separate them from Kaizer Chiefs in eighth place and the top half of the log.
Wayde Lekay was at the head of a TS Galaxy attack that gave Lidoda Duvha a torrid time in the first half.
The striker was rewarded in the 35th minute. Sibusiso Khumalo fouled Lindokuhle Mbatha in the box and it seemed The Rockets would take a deserved lead.
Mxolisi Macuphu’s penalty kick was saved by Lidoda Duvha’s goalkeeper, King Ndlovu. The experienced and wily Lekay booted the rebound into the net.
The half-time score was 1-0.
In the 55th minute a corner kick from Mokoena was punched away by Ndlovu – and landed at Bathusi Aubaas’ feet. He instinctively rocketed the ball into the net and TS Galaxy were up 2-0.
The third goal also came from a corner kick. Mbatha curled the ball into the area and Macuphu launched himself into the air to header the ball home.
The Rockets have 15 log points. Above them are Baroka FC (ninth, 17 points), Kaizer Chiefs (eigth, 18 points) and AmaZulu (seventh, 18 points). Below them on the log are Stellenbosch United (11th, 15 points), Bloemfontein Celtic (12th, 14 points) and Chippa United (13th, 13 points).
TS Galaxy are not out of danger yet, but the possibility of a top-eight end-of-season finish is within their grasp.
Since Owen Da Gama took over as head coach, the team have improved drastically in their physical and mental approach against any given opponent.
#WeAreHeretoStay is more than just a slogan for the club; it has become a mindset.
TS Galaxy’s next match will be a Nedbank Cup last-32 fixture versus TS Sporting at Emirates Airline Park in Johannesburg on Saturday at 15:00.
