R150 000 was raised at the Du Toit-Smuts Attorneys and Lowvelder Charity Golf Day at Mbombela Golf Club last Thursday.

Many sighs were also heaved at the not-so-good golf shots, and cheers and high fives abounded for the long, straight drives, awesome bunker shots and some excellent, and sometimes lucky, putting.

The charities that will benefit this year’s golf day include but are not limited to the Dasha Foundation, a school for children with mental disabilities,

Huis Betlehem, a place of safety for children who had to be removed from their family home because of challenging home circumstances, Nelspruit Community Forum, a social welfare organisation that provides shelter, food and clothing for homeless people, and Laeveldrus, an old age home.

A full field of 144 players competed in the fourball alliance (two scores to count) from 10:30.

As in previous years, the tee and green sponsors outdid themselves, with much cheers and encouragement around the immaculate Mbombela course.

The camaraderie among the players on the course and on the clubhouse veranda was testament to the spirit at the much-anticipated annual event.Friendships were strengthened and new ones were forged.
