The Rockets miss out on top four opportunity

A frustrating draw with a 10-man Kaizer Chiefs at Soccer City on Tuesday May 7 has kept TS Galaxy just outside the top four, in spite of Sekhukhune United dropping points against SuperSport United.

With Sekhukhune United dropping points against SuperSport United, TS Galaxy had the chance to climb into the top four with a win over Kaizer Chiefs. However, a frustrating draw keeps them two points adrift from Sekhukhune in fourth.

The fixtures on Tuesday presented The Rockets with a chance to move up into fourth place, should they beat Kaizer Chiefs and Sekhukhune United do not win against SuperSport United.

All TS Galaxy had to do to give themselves the best possible chance is earn a win against Kaizer Chiefs away from home, something they’ve struggled with this season.

The Rockets’ away form has been far from flattering, but they would have hoped for a change in fortunes when they arrived at Soccer City. Hosts AmaKhosi drew first blood, scoring the opening goal in the 18th minute. TS Galaxy fired back through a Sphiwe Mahlangu penalty 14 minutes later.

The Rockets were handed a significant advantage in the 40th minute when Edmilson Dove received his second yellow card and was sent off for the Chiefs. With a one-man advantage, TS Galaxy would have eyed a much-needed victory.

But Kaizer Chiefs scored first in the second half, restoring their lead at 2-1. It would take until the 76th minute for TS Galaxy to find their equaliser courtesy of Mahlangu once again. The Rockets couldn’t find a winner in the final quarter of the game, though, and had to settle for a frustrating 2-2 draw.

With Sekhukhune and SuperSport drawing 1-1, the former stays in fourth place with TS Galaxy in fifth and SuperSport in sixth.

TS Galaxy now faces Cape Town City in the Mother City on Sunday May 12, while Sekhukhune takes on Polokwane and SuperSport United battle the struggling Cape Town Spurs.
