Nelspruit and Rob Ferreira run riot in SDC Noordvaal Cup

School rugby fans in White River and Mbombela were recently able to revel in the successes of Hoërskool Rob Ferreira and Hoërskool Nelspruit, with both schools enjoyed great success in the latest round of fixtures in the SDC Noordvaal Cup.

Seven of Hoërskool Rob Ferreira’s rugby teams secured spots in their SDC Noordvaal Cup play-offs on Saturday May 25, while Hoërskool Nelspruit’s first team bagged its first win of the season.

It was a memorable weekend for the two Ehlanzeni schools, as all 12 of NHS’s rugby teams were victorious against Hoërskool Marais Viljoen while five of the eight Rob teams beat HTS Witbank. Both schools played at home on Saturday May 25, along with their hockey and netball teams.

In Mbombela, NHS’s first rugby team secured its first win of the season, beating Marais Viljoen 33-15. The first netball team beat Hoërskool Ben Vorster 42-35, the first girls’ hockey team lost 2-1 to Hoërskool Middelburg and the first boys’ hockey team beat Middelburg 1-0.

Over in White River, Rob Ferreira’s first netball team played three matches. They beat Barberton 33-28 and Komatipoort Akademie 25-23, but lost 49-4 against Ferrum High School.

The first girls’ hockey team beat Barberton 18-0 and the first boys’ hockey team beat Barberton 16-0. On the rugby field, Rob Ferreira’s first team had a great day out against HTS Witbank. They ran in seven tries to win 45-21, and secured the hosting rights for the play-offs.

The SDC Noordvaal Cup division 2’s B team finals will be held at Rob Ferreira on Saturday June 1, along with the A team semi-finals. Seven of Rob Ferreira’s teams are taking part in the play-offs – three B teams and four A teams.
