The penultimate Lowvelder Golf Challenge event awaits
With only two events left for the year, things are heating up at the top of the Lowvelder Golf Challenge leaderboard.
The penultimate Lowvelder Golf Challenge is due to take place at Mbombela Golf Club on October 22. It will be the last edition before the grand final next month.
The year has flown by, and we can barely believe that it is already time for the second-last Lowvelder Golf Challenge event of the year, with seven having already taken place. With Octopi Smart Solutions and Du Toit-Smuts & Partners Attorneys on board as sponsors and partners, this year’s series of monthly golf days has once again proven to be a smash hit with local golfers.
Ronald Ncube won the seventh and most recent round of the 2025 series, which was held on September 17. The previous winners this year were Attie van Wyk (round one), Robin Paige (round two), Mary-Ann Braithwaite (round three), Eugene Neumeyer (round four), Le Roux de Beer (round five) and Leon de Kock (round six).
Despite this long list of 2025 winners, only one of them (Van Wyk) has actually led the overall leaderboard at any stage during the year. Instead, it’s Riaan Joubert who’s proved that consistency is key in every round as he has been atop the standings since round two and not let go of that lead.
There is still a determined chasing pack only a few points behind him, but Joubert has looked calm and composed in first place since he took the lead from first-round winner Van Wyk. This sets things up nicely going into the final two rounds.
On each day, the competition is played in an individual Stableford format. To contend for the title, the players must compete in at least five of the nine competition days, as their five best scores will count towards the overall standings after the grand final, which will be hosted on November 20.
The next 2025 Lowvelder Golf Challenge will be held on October 22. Players are responsible for booking their own rounds and carts by contacting the club on 013 744 0952.
Eligibility for prizes requires attending the prize-giving ceremony. Participants must be affiliated with a club and hold an official handicap.
