Van Tonder a pro, Nel places second

Tjokkie van Tonder (30) captured the most coveted title in bodybuilding by winning the WFF World Championships in Huntington Beach, California last week.

It was a weekend of muscles and models as some of the world’s best took to the ramp. Blonde bombshell of the Lowveld, Nicky Nel (24) placed second in the bikini model for under 1,63 metres tall. “I didn’t do much regarding dropping water, but I was still too hard for my division. Placing second was way more than I had hoped for.

“Just to be part of the South African side was more than enough for me,” said Nel.

“I learned a lot during this experience and I’m so grateful and blessed to be able to have competed on an international level.”

Van Tonder took the first place in the men’s performance bodybuilding under 75 kilograms line-up for 1,65 to 1,72 metres.

In the past, he competed as an amateur athlete, but with this win he pocketed his
pro card.

During the provincial championships, Van Tonder placed second in the men’s athletic body building under 80 kilograms. At the South African Champs he won his line-up and took silver in the overall category.
