A year’s membership up for grabs at the 2025 Lowvelder Golf Challenge

This year’s Lowvelder Golf Challenge series will offer participants an even bigger prize compared to the first one in 2024.

After a highly successful first series in 2024, the monthly Lowvelder Golf Challenge is making a return to the greens of Mbombela Golf Club in what promises to be an even bigger year in 2025.

The first Lowvelder Golf Challenge series teed off in February last year (just as it will this year), and attracted a fair-sized field. It only grew from there, garnering more and more interest every time a competition was held each month of the year.

The grand final came round in November and things were tight at the top right until the very end. Franchoa Giliomee and Denise West were neck-and-neck when they teed off for one last round in the competition, on 184 points each. Great weather blessed the final day and it was West who won the first ever Lowvelder Golf Challenge crown.

Now, this year, the stakes will be even higher throughout the 10-part series as the biggest prize yet will be up for grabs – a free year-long membership to Mbombela Golf Club.

Octopi Smart Solutions and Du Toit-Smuts & Partners Attorneys are back on board as sponsors for the series this year, bringing their expertise to the fore once more.

As was the case in 2024, the competition will be played in an individual Stableford format, with an additional surprise format to be revealed on the day. To contend for the title, players must compete in at least five out of the 10 competition days, as their five best scores will count towards the overall standings after the grand final, which will be hosted on November 20.

The first 2025 Lowvelder Golf Challenge will be held on February 19. Players are responsible for booking their own rounds and carts by contacting the club on 013 744 0952. Eligibility for prizes requires attending the prize-giving ceremony. Participants must be affiliated with a club and hold an official handicap.
