Pumas’ home semi-final hopes on track after thrashing of Leopards

The Pumas were far too slick for the Leopards in the SA Cup match.

The Airlink Pumas remain on course for a home semi-final place in the SA Cup with a 80-10 victory over the Leopards at Olën Park in Potchefstroom on Saturday, April 12.

The visitors were once again full of running, spreading the ball wide at every opportunity for the backs to score seven of the 12 tries.

The Pumas outmuscled the Leopards and attacked with a pace that the home team battled to defend against.

The visitors’ set pieces secured them overwhelming possession, and some slick handling and game reading raked in the tries.

The Mpumalanga side were 47-10 ahead at half-time. They scored almost at will to notch up their sixth win in six matches. Ten of the Pumas’ 12 tries were converted.

Danrich Visagie was once more the playmaker as he contributed 21 points via a try and eight conversions.

Daniel Verster was the solo try scorer for the Leopards, with Charles Williams slotting the conversion and a penalty goal.

Former Blitzbok speedster Darren Adonis maintained his prolific try-scoring form by helping himself to another hat-trick of tries, while Eddie Swart went over twice.

The Suzuki Griquas remain top of the log with a full house of 30 points. The Airlink Pumas are second and only a points differential of the Griquas’ 305 to the Pumas’ 303 puts the Kimberley lads on top.

The Griquas have scored 62 tries to the Pumas’ 63 in the 2025 SA Cup campaign, and both teams have conceded 15.

The SA Cup teams will be taking a break over the Easter weekend. The Airlink Pumas will face their toughest and most-vital challenge of the season so far when they take on the Suzuki Griquas at Mbombela Stadium on Friday, April 25 at 17:00.
