Uplands cricketers overwhelm their opponents with superb skills
The First XI cricket team recently proved to players of Hoërskool Nelspruit and HTS Witbank why they can't be beaten on their home field.
The greens of Uplands College set the stage for some great cricket played by the First XI. They recently took on Hoërskool Nelspruit and HTS Witbank and achieved convincing victories over both teams.
The team took on the Nellies, looking to overturn a bad run of results stretching back a number of years. Nelspruit won the toss and elected to bat first. Ozayr Karodia and Gavin Botha made life difficult for the batsmen with some accurate bowling, while Yusuf Patel stymied any hopes of a strong finish with his strong bowling. Nelspuit ended their 50 overs on 220 for 8. Uplands fought back with a winning partnership between Matt Nepgen and Dean Carlisl. Nepgen ended unbeaten on 67 with Carlisle notching up his second 100 of the season. This led to a convincing seven-wicket victory.
HTS Witbank took on the home team next, with Uplands batting first. Dean Carlisle and Keagan Du Preez got the team off to a good start with Carlisle getting 44 runs, Du Preez 69, Matthew Nepgen 88 and Clem Murray 53. They ended their innings on 324 for 5.
Witbank’s batters were outclassed by accurate bowling and superb fielding. Murray had the first catch of the day, giving Gary Park the first of his five wickets for the day.
A run-out by Murray and birthday boy Gavin Botha picking up a wicket, sent Witbank back to the change room on 91 for 9.
