For the past five years, Barberton High School has not been able to beat Bergvlam at cricket, whether on their home field or away.

This past weekend, however, the tables were turned when the NTT BHS first cricket team took on Bergvlam who are notorious for being their major opposition.

According to one of the players, Dillan Botha, they started off slowly and had to show a lot of character to get themselves out of the pickle after BHS was sent in to bat.

BHS managed to score a well-earned 172 runs. The highest individual total, 33, was achieved by Stefan Botha with CJ van der Walt and Armand Grobbelaar scoring 26 and 22 respectively.

Bergvlam could only manage 48 runs and were all out in the 21 over. Best bowler of the day was CJ van der Walt who took three wickets in six overs. Van der Walt was also named man of the match. DJ Raulstone managed to get three wickets in eight overs and André Visser took three in five overs.

This coming Saturday, September 27, the team will tackle Uplands College in White River. Barbertonians should keep their fingers crossed for this team, as a win will make them champions of the league.

Good luck to the boys!
