Three Uplands squash players headed to national tournament
The Mpumalanga Squash Championships proved to be the perfect platform for three pupils of Uplands to showcase their skills and earn their spot at the SA Country Schools Festival.

After displaying superb squash skills at the Mpumalanga Squash Championships over the past weekend, three Uplands pupils were chosen to participate in the SA Country Schools Festival. Jessica Loudon, Josh Karantonis and Tapirwa Tarwa will be heading to Bloemfontein for the festival from April 29 to May 1.
The Mpumalanga Squash Championships were played at different venues: theu.19’s at van Riebeek park and u.13’s at Training Edge in Mbombela, while the u.16’s played in White River.
Several Uplands pupils took part in the championships: Josh Karantonis (u.13 boys), Jessica Loudon, Catherine Van Greunen and Trinity Resting (u.16 girls), Edward Smith (u.16 boys), Lauren Mason and Susan Tarwa (u.19 girls) and Tapirwa Tarwa, Caid Jacobsz and Joshua Bezuidenhout (u.19 boys).
Josh Karantonis came in second place in the u.13 category, Jessica Loudon was eight among the u.16 girls and Tapirwa Tarwa was second in the u.19 category.
David Smythe, Uplands’ head coach of squash said the aforementioned trio all really enjoyed the Mpumalanga Championships and gained valuable experience playing against some outstanding squash players. He noted that they will all need to practice very hard in order to compete in the Country Schools Festival in Bloemfontein.
The three pupils are looking forward to playing against some top quality players and believe they will learn a lot from the experience.
