Swimmer off to nationals
Uplands swimmer, Matthew Ives (17) achieved the required qualifying time standards for participation in the 2016 South African Youth National Swimming Championships.
He will represent Mpumalanga at the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee-sanctioned annual national swimming competition.
The youth nationals started at Kings Park swimming pool, Durban on Sunday where he will be in action until Saturday.
It takes place simultaneously with the South African Senior National Swimming Championships, which also serves as the official trials for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Ives will therefore have the honour to compete against all the best senior and Olympic swimmers in the country, including several international swimmers.
