LHS hockey girls prove their worth on the field

Hope Nkosi and Nosi Ncongwane from Lowveld High School's (LHS) first team hockey girls scored the winning goals against Hoërskool Bergvlam during a winter-sport derby match recently.

Umpire, Jason Blockley had no mercy handing out green and yellow cards one after the other that showed that this game was an uphill battle for both teams.

In 2015 LHS ended in second place in the medium schools hockey league, while they claimed the top of the log from 2012 to 2014 and hope to do so again this year. Overall, LHS won two games, lost two with the u/16s that drew 0-all.

The latter’s’ first netball team also dominated on the courts, beating their rivals 34-18. The open B was a cliffhanger with LHS scoring in the last minutes of the game to reign victorious 15-14.

Both Vlammies’ u/15A and u/15B teams dictated their games winning 34-8 and 30-4 respectively.

It was tough encounters between the boys on the rugby field. The u/15s drew 17-all, the u/16s of LHS narrowly lost 11-16 and the Vlammies first team walked off the field as winners with the final score 34-21.

The second team from LHS managed to score one try compared to the visitors’ penalty kick to win 5-3.
