Uplands cricketers honoured
Katie Prior, an Uplands pupil, was recently honoured with the Mpumalanga Ladies Team Player of the Year Award for the 2015/16 season at the Mpumalanga Titans Cricket annual awards dinner in eMalahleni.

The award was presented to her by former Protea cricket player, Corrie van Zyl.
She represented her province as a 13-year-old last year in an u/19 South African cricket week, and was selected to represent South Africa in Australia at the Indoor Cricket Junior World Series, in Brisbane.
Prior has been involved in action cricket for the past five years and was also in the u/17 women’s squad that represented South Africa during the 2015 junior series.
As indoor cricket is not very popular with girls, this 14-year-old has been playing for the boys at the interprovincial tournaments (IPT) since u/9.
“I was very happy and surprised to receive the award. The Mpumalanga ladies are a great team to play for, and to be awarded the prize at such a young age, is indeed an honour,” Prior said.
Uplands’s Bevan Carlse was acknowledged for his captaincy of the Mpumalanga u/17 team, Kyle Klesse was named the u/13 B player of the year and Branden Brodell the u/17 player of the year.
Hendrik Joubert, master in charge of Uplands Cricket, was the coach of the year.
