Pupils acquire skills and smiles at mini-hockey

Penryn College's sports fields were abuzz on Friday as young hockey enthusiasts gathered, eager to sharpen their skills during the mini-hockey festival hosted by Penryn Preparatory.

Five local independent schools participated including St. Peter’s, Riverview Prep, Curro Nelspruit, Kings School and Summerhill. Although Penryn Prep follows the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) programme, Matt Reed, Penryn Preparatory head of extracurricular, said the emphasis at this age is, however, primarily on fun.

“Mini-hockey days like these are essential in the acquisition of new hockey skills but, probably more imperative, is the social development of the children with events like these,” he explained.

All in good spirit the pupils were kept extremely busy and had the oppor-tunity to play five games each.Penryn Prep would like to thank all the parents who came to support their children and all the staff who were involved in making the day a success.
