Beacon cricket team excel in second league

Beacon College’s second cricket team are having a great season. They have played against Lowveld High, Hoërskool Sybrand van Niekerk, Valencia and Komatipoort Akademie and proved too tough to beat.

So far they have only conceded 18 wickets, compared to the 37 they have taken, scored a total of 687 runs for and 375 runs against them. This puts them at the top of the log with 12 points. Three of the competing schools have only played two matches and two others have played three, which means the log could change soon.

Since Beacon College do not have their own sports fields, Riverview Prep have good-naturedly allowed them the use of their fields for practice. Most of their matches are also played on their opponents’ home fields, which make their wins even more impressive.

The team’s next match is against Penryn College on September 7.
