Prep athletes swim, cycle and run to victory

Riverview Prep wrapped up the term's sporting events with a compulsory tri- and biathlon event for the grades one to seven.

Tuesday morning, Riverview Prep pupils had their fitness and determination tested during the school’s compulsory biathlon and triathlon.

The Junior Prep (grades one to three) started at 08:00 and completed two kilometres of running, had to swim 10 lengths in the school pool and finished with five kilometres cycling.

The Senior Prep had to run for three kilometres, swim 20 lengths and also cycled for five kilometres. The cycling and running courses wound through Riverview’s cane fields and, despite very muddy soil and typical Malelane heat, learners were brimming with spirit.

Winners were announced in each age group and gender, as well as the overall winners of the juniors and seniors. Nick de Zwart (u/10) was the overall boy senior winner with a time of 49,56 while senior girl Ruby James (u/12) won with a time of 52 min, 12 sec.

Junior Graham Spear (u/9) won with a time of 43,33 and Shelley Cloete (u/9) with 51,31.

In the Open boys category, Daniel Story won with a time of 51, 25.

Other age group winners included Libby Ralfe (u/10), Jamie Maritz (u/8), Kevin Forssman (u/7).
