NHS rugby spares Nellies’ blushes against Die Hoërskool Menlopark

Hoërskool Nelspruit’s rugby teams were the shining light of their weekend of sport against Die Hoërskool Menlopark on April 12 and 13, the final round of the round robin stage of the NWU Schools Series.

It was a tough weekend for Hoërskool Nelspruit in the final round of the round robin stage of the NWU Schools Series, with Die Hoërskool Menlopark dominating the weekend.

After a highly successful showing against Hoërskool Eldoraigne the weekend before, the Nellies were certainly hoping for much of the same when Menlopark came to town.

Two days of exciting hockey, netball and rugby action were played at Hoërskool Nelspruit on Friday and Saturday April 12 and 13. The first netball teams were the first of all the senior teams to face off, doing so on Friday afternoon.

Unfortunately for Nelspruit, Menlopark dominated the encounter, mustering up a 11-38 win. This was sadly the theme for the rest of the netball fixtures as Menlopark won all of the matches.

On the hockey front Menlopark dominated matters too. Their girls first team won 7-0 while the first boys team were 4-0 victors. There were two Nellies teams who were victorious though, the U14A boys who won 3-1 and the U14B boys who won 2-0.

Over to the rugby field, and this is where Hoërskool Nelspruit shone by winning eight of the 13 matches. Unfortunately the first team also succumbed to Menlopark, losing 31-14, giving Menlopark a clean sweep among the first teams for the weekend. The U14B team had the biggest margin of victory out of all of the rugby teams, winning 47-5.
