Nellies and Robbies fight hard in Noordvaal Cup

Hoërskool Nelspruit and Hoërskool Rob Ferreira's rugby teams are hard at work in the SDC Noordvaal Cup, with recent matches against Helpmekaar and Lydenburg respectively yielding mixed results.

The rugby teams of Hoërskool Nelspruit and Hoërskool Rob Ferreira have been fighting tooth and nail to represent the region well in their respective SDC Noordvaal Cup divisions.

The two schools play in different divisions and tiers of the cup. Rob Ferreira ply their trade in division 2, while NHS battle it out with some of the best rugby schools in the region in the division 1 cup league. Both of these still fall under the larger umbrella of the SDC Noordvaal Cup, though.

In division 2, Rob Ferreira find themselves taking on the likes of Hoërskool Lydenburg, Ferrum High School, HTS Witbank and Hoërskool Ermelo. Meanwhile, in the division 1 cup, NHS play against Waterkloof, Hoërskool Dr EG Jansen, Monument, Rustenburg, Noordheuwel, Garsfontein, Hoërskool Marais Viljoen, Die Hoërskool Menlopark and finally, their most recent opponents, Helpmekaar Kollege.

What makes matters interesting in the Noordvaal Cup is that it’s not only the schools’ first teams that determine their rankings in the league, but rather every other team that participates, too. This means that although your first team might finish last in their log, if your other teams do well, you won’t necessarily get relegated.

This weekend, Rob Ferreira will take on Ferrum in White River, while NHS will face up against Rustenburg in Mbombela.
