With the 2025 McGee Ford Interprimary and the BUCO Lowveld Interhigh now only two and three weeks away, we are well into the swing of things this athletics season.

In preparation for upcoming friendly athletics meets and of course for the interprimary and interhigh, the schools began their athletics seasons with their respective interhouse athletics days. Every athlete poured their heart out onto the track and field in the hopes of flying their school and their house’s flags high.

Since the interhouse days, the athletes’ focus has shifted to friendly athletics meets held at various primary and high schools. The athletes will undoubtedly be ready and rearing to go when the time comes for the interprimary and interhigh days.

Hoërskool Bergvlam
Bergvlam se interhuis sou oorspronklik op 17 Januarie plaasvind, maar dit was uitgestel na 21 Januarie. Una Ngobeni en Chayton McHugh was as die o. 14 victrix en victor ludorums aangekondig. Die o. 15 victrix en victor ludorums was Ayla Willemse en Christian Holworthy.

Destiny Ngomane en Sibusiso Nkalanga was as victrix en victor ludorums in die o. 16-groep benoem. Jada Bates en Adrian Frantz het die o. 17 victrix en victor ludorum pryse gewen en die o. 19 victrix en victor ludorum trofees was aan Lesedi Shongwe en Gustav de Beer oorhandig. Hoërskool Nelspruit
NHS het op 21 Januarie vir die eerste keer interhuis aangebied op hulle nuwe atletiekbaan. WC van Schalkwyk het die o. 14 victor ludorum trofee ontvang en Jess Badenhorst die victrix ludorum. Wiaan Grobler is as die o. 15 victor ludorum aangekondig en die victrix ludorum was Chenade Botma.

Aldo van Jaarsveld is as o. 16 victor ludorum vereer en Lana Theron het met die o.16 victrix ludorum trofee weggestap. Menzi Shiba het o.17 victor ludorum prys ontvang en Zoë Cilliers die o. 17 victrix ludorum. Vaughn van Zyl was as o. 19 victor ludorum aangewys en Michelle Groenewald as die victrix ludorum. Die Spartane was die algehele wenners van die dag en die Trojane het die geesbeker gewen.

Laerskool Bergland
Laerskool Bergland het die skool se top-4-byeenkoms (sy finale interhuis) op 17 Januarie aangebied. Die atlete het sterk teen mekaar meegeding en vir ’n top dag van atletiek gesorg. Néané Fourie was die junior victrix ludorum en Kaleb Smith die junior victor ludorum. Anieke Buck was die senior victrix ludorum en Ameer Khedr die senior victor ludorum.

Laerskool Laeveld
Laerskool Laeveld het sy interhuis op 17 Januarie, ’n tipiese kookwarm Laeveld-somersdag, aangebied. Zaiden Ellis het die junior victor ludorum gewen en Talia Barnard die junior victrix ludorum. Reinhart Fourie was as senior victor ludorum gekroon en Shanice Mkhatshwa as senior victrix ludorum. Met die geesbeker het die Rooi Valke die topprys geneem.

Laerskool Nelspruit
Laerskool Nelspruit se interhuis was van die laastes van die laerskole, op 24 en 25 Januarie. Liam Fischer was die junior victor ludorum en Mika Swart as junior victrix ludorum. Troy Grobler het die senior victor ludorum trofee opgeraap en Alizé Engelbrecht die senior victrix ludorum. Die Mambas was die geesbekerwenners en die Cheetahs was die dag se algehele wenners.

Nelspruit Primary School
Nelspruit Primary’s interhouse was held on January 21, and it was a day of stiff competition and good sportsmanship. Karabo Magagula was the junior victor ludorum and Linda-Joyce Akum the junior victrix ludorum. The senior victor ludorum trophy was awarded to Nkazimulo Mthunywa, while Bella Wilkinson was crowned senior victrix ludorum.

Penryn School
Penryn Prep’s interhouse was one of the last to be held – this school hosted theirs on January 24 and 25. The junior victor ludorum went to Samukelo Maphosa and junior victrix ludorum to Renesmee Fuentes. Matthew Modau was the senior victor ludorum and Munashe Sebotse the senior victrix ludorum. House Bateleur won the spirit trophy and House Lanner were the day’s overall winners.

Hosted on January 18, Penryn College’s interhouse followed a day after their prep school’s. A day of top athletics played out and everyone gave it their all. Asemahle Dlamini won the junior victrix ludorum and Lerako Mokotedi was named the junior victor ludorum. For the seniors, Katelyn Kotze was the victrix ludorum, while Newton Ojo walked away as the victor ludorum. Kite House won the spirit trophy and Harrier House the overall athletics one.

Rob Ferreira High School
The first of the schools to have their interhouse athletics day, Rob Ferreira held theirs on January 16 and 17 to kick things into gear early on. The school didn’t record victor or victrix ludorums, but competition was stiff among the house teams. The best girls team was the Warriors and the Gladiators came out tops on the boys’ side. The overall winners were the Warriors. The Gladiators took home the spirit cup.

Uplands
Uplands hosted its interhouse athletics day on January 17, and its athletes fought hard, judging by all the records tumbling. Isabela Webber was named junior victrix ludorum and Andrew Joubert was junior victor ludorum. The senior victor ludorum trophy went to Mpendulo Mathebula, and Lexi Joubert was the senior victrix ludorum. Webb House won the spirit cup, while Fuller House won the day overall.

The college interhouse athletics day was held on January 18 with great success. The recipient of the junior victrix ludorum trophee was Nseketelo Mkhonto, while the junior victor ludorum was shared between Andile Gumede and Husein Mohlala. Emma Cruickshanks and Ashlee-Jade Repinga shared the senior victrix ludorum and Míckal Bakker walked away as the senior victor ludorum. Goss House won the day overall after dominating on the track and field.
