Young talent ready to shine at BUCO Lowveld Interhigh 2026

Lowveld High is hosting the event for the first time since 2019.

The 76th BUCO Lowveld Interhigh is now not around the corner anymore, but rather on the home straight as school athletes ready themselves for action this weekend.

Hundreds of the Lowveld’s best athletes have been preparing to hit their peak and put on a show at this year’s BUCO Lowveld Interhigh, hosted by Lowveld High School, on February 28. It has been an arduous athletics season so far for schools in the region, all building up to their most important athletics meet of the year.

Three of the participating schools – Hoërskool Lydenburg, Hoërskool Rob Ferreira and Hoërskool Bergvlam participated in the LSK Engineering Sonop Interhigh in Lydenburg last week, and got some crucial prep work done in the process. These three schools came up against some tough competition and will feel ready and up to the challenge this weekend.

Hoërskool Nelspruit’s athletes have also been busy this season, taking part in meets such as Curro Podium, and most recently, the Noordheuwel Speed Fest, where they put in some vital preparation ahead of the interhigh.

Hosts Lowveld High have already hosted and taken part in a few friendly athletics meets this year and are ready to make an impact. Penryn College and Hoërskool Barberton haven’t been resting on their laurels either and have enjoyed some great friendly athletics meets. As always, the Lowveld Interhigh looks set to be a showcase of some fine athletics.

You can buy tickets to enjoy the action from participating schools or from the hosts themselves. Spectators who would like to park at the venue will be able to access the school via the Boekenhout Street gate, where they can buy a parking ticket.

Those who are entering on foot can do so via the school’s main gate, and programmes will be sold on the day. The athletes’ processions will start at 06:00, which will be followed by the cheerleaders and cheer teams’ performances. With a spectacle in store, make sure you don’t miss out on this spectacular event!
